Finished Darwinia today. Great game – “must have” for everyone loving retro style in new tech implementation.

He uses “The Wall” again now, but i think it’s all been said with “Amused to Death”. Nevertheless, what more to say: “I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.”

When searching for this years topic, i was interupted by my daughter asking me for a version of Pac-Man for her Nintendo DS. Search completed.
The pac-dots inside the labyrinth contain the lines:
“What do you get if you multiply six by nine?” – Reference to 42 (taken from the TV show)
“Practice Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty”
“Cramhints” – encription key (C,R,A,M,H,I,N,T,S=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) for the two names hidden in the high scores.
The number 42 is also included as the total sum of the bonus items (4200 points); the current year is to be found inside the power pellets.

Futurama – one of my favourite TV shows. Too bad it wasn’t a crowd-pleaser…
…but definitively a nerd-pleaser. After being shut down infamously by broadcaster FOX it resurrected as a set of 3 DVDs and after this being successful on the TV screen as well. Halleluja!
The only hidden message is the number 42, which in this case is represented by Deep Thought himself – but the one from the movie, not the one appearing in the TV show.
Furthermore “Practice Random Kindness…” can be found on the billboard in the lower right corner and a picture containing two suspiciously looking guys in the lower left corner. Both boards are written in fonts that were used for the Futurama TV shows.
Last, but not least, the current year as a part of the “Planet Express” headquarter’s parapet.

The two towers.
Should it really be about these two (Barad-dûr in Mordor and Orthanc in Isengard), or maybe something else?
No hidden messages this time – at least if one is capable of reading Tengwar, the written language of Middle-earth.
“Practice Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty”, written in the Tengwar-Annatar font by Johan Winge, can be found at the bottom – hopefully without too many typos.
(The first one has been found already: An additional “d” has crept to the end of the line. Fixed now – thanks go to Uwe Engelmann for reporting it.)
On the right hand you can find the current year (written in Tengwar using the elvish duodecimal number system) and on the left hand the number “42”.

Resistance is futile!
Of course an hommage to the Star Trek series (TNG rules!) and especially to the Borg.
The number “42” and the current year can be found as binary numbers (smaller and bigger dots for “0” resp. “1”) to the right and left of the cFos borg logo.
“Practice Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty” is written on the lower border using Tommy of Escondido’s borg font. The green letters can be rearranged to “Resistane is futile”.
黑客After rotating the mug by 90 degrees – please use empty mug for this ;), the borg cubes contain these two chinese characters as autostereograms (SIS). Their meaning is hēi kè (hei1 ke4), which can be translated as “dark/strange guest/visitor” – the Chinese expression for “hacker”.
In the bigger version of the image the stereograms can be seen by turning your head to the left, like this: : -) .
